If the Pope got his way, according to Dennis, with the Pope on his throne in Jerusalem
-Control over the world religion(s) through wiping out the powerbases for Protestantism and Islam.
-Control over the world econom(ies)y through the transfer of power going on right now in the middle of this crisis.
-Control over the world government(s) through those other two and whatever else they may be planning for.

And, if we survived the takeover relatively intact (no nuclear war or other plague/famine/disaser was needed), and that society hadn't crumbled from peak oil yet... (I know that's A LOT of if's, but I'm getting to the main question)

How would everyday life be different?

Basically what is their final goal, their main objective, if they could have everything their way? Do they have such poor self-esteem that they merely want everyone to bow to them and they'll be happy, or what in particular about our lives do they want to change?

Maybe it will mean no more condoms, and burning copies of "The Da Vinci Code," but that's just silly stuff.

What would be the real consequences of the world being subjected to the Pope?

I haven't kneeled in a Catholic Church since I was 18 and don't intend to do so again.

Study "The Inquisition." That will ease your mind.

Lets see

1. The burning times , come see the homosexuals/lesbians/heretics/people we borrowed money from/people whose children we raped  etc ad nauseam . Get burned alive at a fun family themede event every sunday at Our Lady of Peace chapel.

2. The earth is flat and the universe revolves around us.

3. Evolution is wrongo and thats that.

4. The pope is always right , unless he is caught raping sheep in the pasture. Then a new pope will be installed and of course he will always be right too. Well until he is caught having carnal knowledge of a chicken.

5. Disagree or object with 2 3 or 4 and you too can be a star attraction at OLP on sunday as a heretic.

The Catholic Church has denounced the inquisition, and I'm pretty sure believes the Earth is a sphere that goes around the sun by now. They are even one of the few Christian churches to support the theory of evolution. I remember reading this summer that they're even open to the possible existence of aliens now. They don't seem to have a conflict with science anymore.

Also, it was mostly the Church that helped finance the beginnings of the Renaissance, for the arts anyways, so I doubt they want another "Dark Ages" upon us.

Although they don't like homosexual acts and still call it a sin, they also call for tolerance of gay people to be treated as people the same way heterosexuals are. They are also against the death penalty in almost every case, and will only let someone be put to death if a prison cannot hold them or their harmful influence.

The only things ridiculous about them that I can think of are: no condoms, illegal abortions, don't like Harry Potter or The Da Vinci Code or that Phillip Pullman series, don't let priests marry, don't let women become priests, infallibility of the Pope (though that's no really emphasized anymore). I support gay marriage, but I'll give them that one since at least they're tolerant of homosexuals.

So, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, you believe what leaders say?Huh

If their lips are moving they are lying.

Here's a hint for ya .  If you just want to fuck/sell/keep your job   tell them what they want to hear. The catholic church is simply being diplomatic , diplomatic as in saying nice doggie until they can get a rock. The reason the popesters didn't want the common clergy getting any ass . Is so the church had no dependents to split the priests earthly possesions with when the priest croaked.    Be that as it may  , the church is only a few hundred years away from ramming the pear up gay folks orifices and ripping their guts out.  Don't worry though , when the churchstapo kicks in your door at 10 pm and hauls you and your SO off for the sin of doing something besides the missionary position.  I am sure if you are willing to part with a considerable amount of your goods  , the catholic priest will sell you an indulgence.  Of course if your broke and you and the SO get burned at the stake , if your family has money/goods the popester wants , they can help you out.  As soon as coin in coffer clings the soul from purgatory springs.  Amen

Just to be fair  to gays and other religions  , I found this lovely story about a priest from the church of england.

A Church of England priest is under fire after calling for gays to be forcibly tattooed with a sodomy warning. The Rev. Peter Mullen, who is chaplain to the London Stock Exchange, made that remark and other incendiary homophobic comments on his internet blog.

Mullen said the forced tattoos would be similar to warning placed on packages of cigarettes. “Let us make it obligatory for homosexuals to have their backsides tattooed with the slogan ‘Sodomy can seriously damage your health,’ their chins with ‘Fellatio kills,'" he wrote. In another posting, the 66-year old Mullen calls for gay pride parades--which he called “obscene”--to be outlawed. And in a third, he blasted another Church of England priest, the Rev. Martin Dudley, for blessing the civil partnership of two fellow clerics.

Bishop of London the Rt Rev Richard Chartres has criticized Dudley for conducting the ceremony, but chastised Mullen for the blog postings.

Bigoted assholes of every race  creed color and religion it seems. PS if the flaming heteros don't stand up and say FUCK OFF you controlling homophobic shitbags. Don't be crying when you have to go see your local representative of the popester for the keys to the chastity belts . Once every 6 months and thats if he likes you Grin

Ah, I believe keeha posted somewhere on the sex lives of popes.  Seems some popes liked mother superiors, and others liked a large stable of altar boys kept around.

The difference between partial control and total control is a matter of degree.  Total control means that you have to follow Vatican law, whatever it is.  Of course, if you are part of the power structure, a certain amount of hanky panky is required, so that they can blackmail you at any time.  But nevertheless, for the common peon, the difference would be the degree of uniformity required among the sheep.  Speckled sheep would be destroyed, one way or another.  And, because the vatican makes long plans and thinks in centuries, it would eventually happen.  You know, forbid the speckled sheep from owning real property.  Forbid the speckled sheep from passing on an inheritance at death.  These things have been tried before and were very successful, because it is in the white sheep's interest to take the speckled sheep's property.  Also, the laws are set up so that the white sheep outbreed the speckled sheep.  So, methinks that the laws would change so that Catholics get a tax exemption (more than just child tax credit), whereas non-Catholics don't.  Ten Commandments in public buildings.  No Eid al-Fitr stamps.  Bigger child tax credit.  More Catholic schools.  And, more taxes.  Lots more taxes.  Forever.

2. The earth is flat and the universe revolves around us.
Actually, the Catholic Church had no censure against the Copernican system until Galileo. Protestants, however, initially came out against the heliocentric view of the universe. Ironically enough, Jesuit astronomers confirmed Galileo's discoveries but wanted more proof of its truth. When Galileo said that certain passages of Scripture had to be reinterpreted because of the new view of the universe, he crossed the line (according to the Catholics) and stepped on the authority of the Church as the sole interpreter of the Bible.

But advances in science in a theocratic regime would most likely be either used against the people or hidden from them completely (although I'm not well-read on historical theocracies -- good reading project for the rest of the night). But why not split the public with a meaningless debate like evolution and throw the debate into the political spectrum? Another way for the "ruling class/power elite/theocrats" to divide people into ideological groups and plunder them, all while keeping civil order.

Ah, I believe keeha posted somewhere on the sex lives of popes.
I always kind of figured that the Marquis de Sade wasn't just making up stories out of thin air when he portrayed priests as just as (or more) corruptible and debauched as anyone else.

well not too much, other than you'd have a lot more corruption than we already do and probably less civil liberties...that is if they decide not to nuke the United States.

Also, many of the various groups and inclusive societies in America would be eradicated.  Instead of power dealing being mostly inclusive as it is now, believe it or not, it would be much more exclusive.  For the power class in America, this means certain death.  They haven't responded and seem not to be to the threat of Vatican rule, so maybe they deem it as not that bad?

Who knows.  All I know is if this country is getting popped, I don't want to be in it when it does.  I'll come back and rebuild what I can though, in a new order deemed appropriate.  The truth is this country either better change itself, or it will be changed.  Personally, I think a depression and cutting off the Oil will be enough.  No need to nuke it.  But I don't make many decisions.  I only watch them get made and try to live around the dictates.

But all of us are responsible for ourselves.  If the Vatican ruins our lives, its not their fault...its ours.

I wish these guys would just get their gay-on so we can get on with saving the earth and our civilization from being ass-fucked by their denial and repression.  I'm speaking to both sides of the gay-not-gay game.

CBC Dec.23,08: Pope's comments on gender spur outrage in gay community
Quote
Gay groups are criticizing comments made by Pope Benedict XVI that indicated saving humanity from homosexual behaviour is more important than saving rainforests from destruction.

In a holiday address on Monday to the Curia — the Vatican's central administration — the pontiff said humanity must care for the land, water and air but also "protect humans against the destruction of himself," he said.

"A sort of ecology of man is needed," said the Pope. "The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less."

The Pope was trying to imply that if the entire human population were homosexual that the birthrate would be reduced to the point of extinction for humankind, said Norman Prince, president of Dignity Canada, an organization for Catholics concerned about the church's sexual theology.

The gay community should be applauding the church for meeting its hiring goals and equality requirements.

In three other experiments, the results were the same: Powerful people judged others more harshly for failing to return the bike, or for not paying taxes, while being more likely to excuse the same behaviour for themselves.

In contrast, people in the lower power positions were more likely to be hard on themselves than others.

Dr. Galinsky isn’t surprised by the results – it proves, he says, the old saying: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

A decade of experiments has shown, he says, that even if people find their way to power honestly, and by understanding the perspective of others, those traits are inevitably eroded the less they feel people are monitoring them.

“It’s very difficult to punish people above you,” Dr. Galinsky says. And the truly powerful don’t have much incentive to be guided by social norms, to feel the guilt or shame from the group. “They can meet their needs without relying on other people.”

And it’s also why they are so shocked by the visceral reaction to their own hypocrisy – like those CEOs who seemed surprised that their private jets might reap the scorn of a recession-ravaged country.

“The human mind is a powerful rationalization machine,” Dr Galinsky says. So the powerful say: I need to do this to protect myself or project a certain image or help my company – and they believe it.

But Dr. Galinsky’s research also makes clear that all those Gollums need a strong, watchful Gandalf – a board of directors, watchful media, a critical public – to keep them from feeling invisible. And it also means, he says, that society needs to think more deliberately about what kinds of people it brings to power, perhaps stressing a strong sense of ethics over other skills.

“People in power,” he says, “act more like themselves; their true personality emerges.”

RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”.

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.
